What is it?
It all began in 2023 when Christian and Sebastian recognized the immense challenges in decarbonizing European housing due to fragmented and inefficient insulation processes. Small insulation businesses lacked scale, and there was a shortage of over 3 million craftsmen to meet the market demand. Together with Abrish and Chris, they founded VARM to build a cloud infrastructure called VARM OS, aiming to standardize insulation, connect independent insulators, and improve productivity across the industry.
Why we invested
The founders
Christian previously built and exited a D2C longevity brand, bringing valuable entrepreneurial experience. Sebastian founded and exited a co-living business where he had honed his ability to scale operations.
The problem
European housing decarbonization suffers from limited supply, fragmentation, and inefficiencies in the insulation industry. Small insulation businesses lack scale, leading to custom workflows and errors. Additionally, there is a significant shortage of skilled craftsmen, with over 3 million needed to meet the growing market demand for insulation and retrofitting.
The solution
VARM increases the supply of installers through comprehensive training and tooling. They then provide these installers a business-in-the-cloud that generates demand, standardized processes and improves productivity, allowing installers to focus on what they do best.
The opportunity
With a €740 billion market for insulation and a €2 trillion total addressable market for retrofitting in Europe, there’s a significant opportunity to transform the industry. VARM aims to become the European insulation champion by addressing the inefficiencies and labor shortages in the industry. VARM is positioned to capture a significant share of this massive market and contribute substantially to Europe’s decarbonization goals.
